Steni – Xerovouni
Starting off at Steni Village we head on towards Xerovouni mountain. The trail is uphill and we cross a stream several times. There is no water supply so we have to carry our own.
As we reach out of the trees we come into the view of Xerovouni mountain which rises dominating above us. You can either go all the way to the top (Hard route), or skip the top and head towards Kampia village.
The scenery from the top is breathtaking but even the alternate route is eye-catching. Arriving at Kampia village we will have the option of tasting local fresh trout.
Skotini Cave, & peak
Leaving Eretria we will be transfered to Skotini either by car or taxi depending on the group. It is a 22 km drive (35 mins) to get there. Reaching the village of Setta you are now realizing why Evia is considered to be mountainous.
Beautiful scenery all year round will calm your senses. Autumn colours of Setta are just amazing. Reaching St. Triada church in Aboudiotissa we leave the cars here. St. Triada is a complex of two little churches with a thirst-quenching well which runs all year round (even in the summer).
The green fields and forest await our journey. It is a mild and pleasant walk getting to the the lake and cave following dirt roads. Leaving the cave we will head our way to the top of Skotini mountain. It is such a spectacular peak raising above the village of Metohi and Setta. You can clearly see Dirfis, Olympus of Evia, Xerovouni and the winding beaches in the Aegean sea.
Agali Gorge
The Agali gorge is one of Greece’s most wonderful gorges. It is located at the foot of mount Dirfis in Evia.
The trails starts near Agios Athanasios village starting the ascent in the Agali gorge, continuing west round Dirfis. The scenery is daunting and will leave you satisfied once you get to the mountain refuge. The route takes us back the same way with nice views of the Evian gulf and Dirfis mountain.
On this tour we come across several springs with fresh water. Snacks will have to be carried along as we leave our accommodation.
